Last week, Cycling Weekly announced that 37% of people in the UK don’t do any sport, with 36% of them claiming it’s due to not having enough time. Here at The Bicycle Hub, we aim to demonstrate that there’s always time for cycling, and it’s probably the easiest sport to incorporate into your routine.
We’ve pulled together 4 ways to fit cycling into your week, so that you can improve your health, maintain a healthy weight, and most importantly, have fun!
This is probably the most obvious way to add cycling into your routine, yet so many people – including those who already enjoy cycling – still drive to work rather than make the journey on 2 wheels. Not only does it introduce exercise into your week, it wakes you up in the morning, helps you wind down in the evening and of course you save money on petrol!
If cycling to work isn’t an option for you, then why not cycle on the weekends? Cycling around towns or country lanes is a great day out, letting you explore, take in the views and choose exactly where you want to go. Or if you’re only a beginner, cycle into a nearby town or destination, lock your bike up and explore on foot before cycling home.
The most common reason for not having time to exercise is that you have kids. One way to spend time with your kids and begin cycling is to introduce cycling to them as well! Often kids already love cycling, but if they haven’t learnt yet, teaching them to ride a bike is a rewarding experience for both child and parent. Kids have much more energy than adults, so you’ll have to try and keep up with them!
Finally, cycling is a great way to broaden your social circle and make new friends, as well as offering new activities for you to spend time with your current friends. So, the time that would have usually been spend having coffee or days out with friends has the same social benefits but with exercise.
